Welcome to Hills Church!

Thanks for joining us for today’s service. We pray that our worship and time in God’s Word encourage and strengthen your faith.

This week, Rev. Nathan shares a special message from Acts 13 and 14 as Hills Church commissions the team launching Way Church. Discover how the early church responded to the Holy Spirit’s leading, the importance of church planting, and why God’s mission is always bigger than ourselves.

Sermon Notes

Sent by the Holy Spirit
Acts 13:1 to 14:28
Rev. Nathan Bell

Called in God’s Presence

The church at Antioch didn’t develop its mission through strategy alone. While worshipping, praying and fasting, they heard the Holy Spirit’s direction. God’s calling is most clearly discovered as we spend time in His presence.

Stay Faithful Through Opposition

Paul and Barnabas faced rejection, persecution and hardship, yet they remained committed to God’s mission. Their perseverance produced lasting fruit and reminds us that God’s work often grows through faithfulness rather than comfort.

Success Requires Humility

When people attempted to honour Paul and Barnabas instead of God, they immediately redirected all glory back to Jesus. As God blesses His people, humility must always remain at the centre of ministry.

Stay Connected

Although Paul and Barnabas planted new churches, they remained closely connected to the church that sent them. Healthy mission includes accountability, encouragement and ongoing partnership.

Sending Is Kingdom Growth

The church at Antioch appeared to lose some of its best leaders, yet the Kingdom gained. Sending people into new mission fields creates opportunities for new leaders to emerge and expands God’s work beyond our own community.

Key Takeaway

The Holy Spirit still calls and sends His Church today. As we seek God’s presence, remain humble, persevere through challenges, and faithfully support one another, we become part of His ongoing mission to reach the world.
